The details are finally official. The Nintendo Direct will be around 40 minutes long and will air on Youtube at around 7 a.m PT, 10 a.m ET and will present us with new information on the upcoming games launching this winter as it’s been confirmed by Nintendo on Twitter. You’d expect Nintendo to wrap things up with the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet for this year but you’d be dead wrong as it’s reported that a September Nintendo Direct will take place as early as next week and will feature both Zelda and the upcoming Metroid Prime announcements.
Nintendo Direct Scheduled for Next Week
This information all came from the Giant Bomb Journalist Jeff Grub who had previously mentioned that a company showcase was coming in the week of September 12, but due to the unforeseen death of Queen Elizabeth II, it was speculated that Nintendo’s plans for events would be rescheduled. To pay respects to the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II, Nintendo Direct will unfortunately not air or be live-streamed within the United Kingdom and will be available on demand at around 4 p.m UK time on Youtube. It was in a live stream this weekend that Jeff Grub mentioned that despite having communicated the fact that there could be a delay in scheduling for the event. It doesn’t seem to be the case now. Third-Party developers are gearing up to make their announcements earlier than the Tokyo Game Show this Thursday, it’s possible that Nintendo Direct could take place earlier than usual as Grub speculated. Grub went on to state the previously 2018 delay of the announced Nintendo Direct due to a major earthquake in Japan – which was later re-scheduled – and stated that the company wanted to likely avoid a similar situation in the future. “hey usually hold Directs on Thursdays, but [this week] Thursday is in the heart of Tokyo Game Show, so they need to do it earlier. It could happen on Tuesday, which would be weird The Direct is, of course, not officially announced, but they have been communicating with partners on what happened over the last day or two. “This discussion happened at Nintendo of America, and then they had the full discussion with everyone who would be a decision maker – in Japan for the most part – and it doesn’t seem the plan has changed as they reach out to partner publishers, indie developers and stuff like that. Based on that information, I’m fairly confident it will still happen early next week. GamesBeat managing editor Mike Minotti and Jeff Grub stated in the past on a podcast that the Zelda and Metroid ports would be part of the next direct and the latter stated he understands that is still the case. Minotti had some words to share of his own that gave us some insight about the upcoming Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports for the Switch. Also, Metroid Prime HD remasters should be coming out this holiday, so we should get that as well, and then there’s stuff like Fire Emblem that has been rumored and seems like it makes a lot of sense, but I can’t confirm, and then stuff like EA announcing It Takes Two. Grub speculated that more additions to the Zelda franchise will be featured in the future. Twilight Princess and Wind Waker have already been given the HD treatment on Wii U and are now one of the last few of Nintendo’s last-gen games that still haven’t been ported to the Switch. If they’re going to have Zelda stuff there, this is not a Partner Direct, and those are the things that we’ve been hearing. The specifics that were name-dropped were Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD ports to the Switch. Which, again, even had we not heard that I would be speculating that that would be happening right now while we wait for the run-up to Breath of the Wild 2. And yet we have heard that, and we’ve heard other things, again Metroid Prime remaster, that sounds like it’s got to be announced at something like this. And then third parties will be showing up. I’ve heard some of that as well, it’s not super exciting the things I’ve heard. To me, it sounds like at least a Mini Direct, but if it’s going to have the name of the next Zelda, which seems like a distinct possibility, that sounds like a big general Direct. Based on everything he’s heard about Nintendo Direct so far, Minoti stated that everything outside of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker is mere speculation. The Metroid Prime remaster for the Switch will finally release sometime at the end of the year according to Grubb’s recent claims. He stated on a Giant Bomb show in June that he’d been told pretty definitely that the title would arrive in time for Prime’s 20th anniversary this November. The Metroid Prime remasters have reportedly been coming for years, with one recognized the inside claiming last November that Metroid Prime 1’s remaster was already completed and ready to hit the shelves.
