Sometimes you will not be able to install graphics card driver because your driver will not detect graphics card. This issue occurs on different operating systems and different client machines, including desktop computers, workstations, and notebooks. Also, this issue occurs on the integrated graphics card and dedicated graphics card, including Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA.

So, why this issue occurs? There are different reasons, including incompatibility between graphics card and driver, hardware and software issues, wrong BIOS configuration and others. We created 13 methods to show you how to solve this problem. So, let’s start.

Method 1: Show hidden devices in Device Manager

Sometimes, hardware components can be hidden in Device Manager and it will look like they are not detected by Windows. In that case, you will need to access Device Manager and show hidden devices. We will show you how to do in on Windows 10 Pro. The same procedure is compatible with previous operating systems.

Method 2: Enable graphics card in Device Manager

One of the issue, why graphics card is not detected by Windows, is because the graphics card is disabled in Device Manager. Hardware components can be disabled or enabled by end users or third party software. Based on that you will need to check if your graphics card disabled or not by following Method 4 at this guide

Method 3: Enable graphics card in BIOS or UEFI

You can enable or disable graphics card in BIOS or UEFI, too. You will need to access BIOS or UEFI and check is your graphics card disabled. We are recommending you to check procedure

Method 4: Reinstall graphics card driver

In this method, you will need to reinstall your graphics card driver. You can do it using two ways, one is manually through Device Manager and second is using standard installation. We are recommending you to try both methods because some users tried both methods, but only one solved issue with the graphics card. At first, you will need to download drivers from an official vendor website, by following method 2. If that does not solve your problem, you will need to Install Driver from Offline Microsoft Repository through Device Manager, by following step 2, option 1.

Method 5: Reinstall chipset driver and Intel Management Engine

Few users solved their problem by installing or reinstalling chipset driver and Intel Management Engine. As always, we are recommending you to install and run drivers from an official vendor website, and not third party websites. For example, if you are using notebook Dell Vostro 5568, you will need to open Dell support and download the latest drivers, including chipset driver and Intel Management Engine. After you finish driver installation, do not forget to restart your Windows machine.

 

Method 6: Uninstall Samsung Magic Rotate software

Are you using Samsung Magic Rotate software for rotating screen on Samsung monitors? If yes, you will need to uninstall software through Programs and Features. If not, please read next method. We will show you how to uninstall application on Windows 10. The procedure is compatible with previous operating systems.

Method 7:  Run the Hardware Troubleshooter

If methods above did not help you to solve the issue, you will need to run Hardware Troubleshooter tool which is integrated into Windows 10. Hardware Troubleshooter tool will try to automatically solve the issue by analyzing your Windows. We will show you how to run Hardware Troubleshooter tool on Windows 10. The procedure is similar on previous operating systems.

Method 8: Run FixIT

Microsoft developed software named FixIT which will help you to troubleshoot problem-related to installation or uninstallation of programs or drivers. In this method, we will download and run FixIT on Windows 10. This procedure is compatible with previous operating systems. Method 9: Perform a System Restore

Implementation of backup and restore strategy is a crucial action for home and business environment. There are different solutions for Windows or data recovery, and one of them is System Restore. What can you with System Restore? If System Restore is enabled on your Windows machine, you can revert the operating system to the previous state when everything worked without any problems. Please note that you can not restore your Windows machine to the previous state if System Restore is turned off. Please read how to perform a System Restore, by following method 17.

Method 10: Reset BIOS or UEFI to default settings

Wrong BIOS or UEFI configuration can make a lot of trouble to your machine, including a problem with detecting graphics card in Windows. In this method, you will need to reset BIOS or UEFI to default settings. We will show you how to do it on motherboard ASUS P8B75-M. As always, we are recommending you to read the technical documentation of your brand name computer, notebook or motherboard.

Method 11: Update your BIOS or UEFI

We talked so many times about BIOS or UEFI, and if you read our articles, you should know what is the purpose of BIOS or UEFI. In this method, you will need to change the version of your BIOS or UEFI. At first, we are recommending you to update your BIOS or UEFI to the newest version. If that does not solve the issue, please try to downgrade version of BIOS or UEFI. How will you do it? There are a lot of articles which can teach you how to change the version of your BIOS or UEFI. Please read instructions how to change the version of BIOS or UEFI. Before changing version of BIOS or UEFI, we are recommending you to read the technical documentation of your motherboard.

Method 12: Test your dedicated graphics card and power supply unit

If you are one of the users who is using two computers, then you can test your external graphics card on another computer. If another computer detects graphics card, there are hardware or software problems on your first computer. If another computer does not detect your graphics card, that means your graphics card is faulty and you will need to repair it or replace by the new one. Also, if your power supply unit is not working properly, your graphics card will have problems during the work. Based on that we are recommending you to test your power supply unit. The procedure of testing the power supply unit is the same like the procedure of testing graphics card. If your power supply is not working properly we are recommending you to purchase new power supply unit for your computer. How to Figure Out What Power Supply You Need for your PC build? Please check how to choose proper power supply unit for your machine. If you are using a notebook, then you can not test your graphics card by using the previous method. But, you can test your battery and AC DC adapter. We are recommending you to turn off your notebook, unplug your battery and test your notebook using only AC DC adapter. If you can install graphics card driver, it means your battery is faulty and you will need to replace it by the new one. If the problem is still there, you will need to check AC DC adapter. For that test, you will need compatible AC DC adapter.

Method 13: Downgrade your operating system

If you are one of the users who updated machine from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and after that, you can not install a graphics card, we are recommending you to revert your Windows to the previous version where everything worked properly. Why? Because your graphic card or graphic card driver is not compatible with newer operating systems. You will need to wait for a proper update for your graphic card. Please do not use fix from third party websites.
