Record Breaking Frequencies

The Ryzen 9 7950X from AMD’s upcoming Zen4 features 16 cores / 32 threads. From the leaks, the ‘F-max‘ frequency is rated at 5.85GHz which can be achieved using the built-in PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive). This technology uses algorithms to increase frequencies based on temperatures. 

More Power?

With Zen3 (Ryzen 5000), you could reportedly set an offset for the ‘F-max’ frequency. This in theory, if applied with the pre-existing 5.85GHz leaks, may push AMD’s R9 7950X to near 6GHz levels.  Intel may have some competition because the i9-13900K goes up to 5.8GHz using Intel’s Thermal Velocity Boost. In addition, the sample featured in this leak is not the ‘top bin’. 

CPU-Z Specs

The same leak shows the R9 7950X in CPU-Z. As expected, it is manufactured on TSMC’s 5nm process node featuring support for the AVX-512 ISA which Raptor Lake does not support. 

Performance

We got our hands on the initial performance numbers for AMD’s R5 7600X and R7 7700X. You can read more about it here. However, the benchmarks put these CPUs neck to neck against Intel’s (as of now) best offerings in single-core testing. However, Raptor Lake takes back that lead both in single and sometimes even multi-core testing. 

Release Date

AMD is set to announce its Zen4 CPUs tomorrow. The launch date was initially the 15th of September, however, due to some BIOS related issues the this date has been pushed back to the last week of September. Intel’s Raptor Lake is expected to be announced at the same time (27-28th September).
